For our February concert, Gesu Parish will present as soloist Donald VerKuilen, an up and coming young organist who has just returned home from a tour in France during which he performed on some of the finest organs of that country. He currently serves as Minister of Music at First Lutheran Evangelical Church in Strongsville, Ohio.
A native of Appleton, Donald began his music career at a very early age, starting the study of piano at the age of three. As a young boy, he was a chorister in the Appleton Boy Choir. Donald started his organ studies with Frank Rippl, Organist and Choirmaster at All Saints Episcopal Church, Appleton. Since then he has studied with Marie-Louise Langlais, widow of the famous composer, Jean Langlais, and Jonathan Moyer. He is an organ performance major at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, studying under James David Christie.
Donald has been a finalist in many prestigious performance and hymn playing competitions, as well as an E. Power Biggs fellow with the Organ Historical Society. He was the final organist of the 2010 International Festival of the Organ in Rome, Italy, and has performed in many other well known venues.
No admission fee; free will offerings are accepted and appreciated. Free parking information can be found on the parish website,
