Early Music Now continues its beloved tradition of presenting uniquely beautiful holiday programs.  This concert combines members of the Boston Camerata with the Milwaukee Choral Artists to explore many of the pre-Christmas forms and practices that are intermingled with the Christian holiday.  Drawn from a vast medieval trove that includes some of the most beautiful music ever produced in Europe, audiences will hear medieval song and poetry from France, Provence, England, and Germany as performed by a virtuoso consort of voices and instruments.  In the words of Boston Camerata artistic director Anne Azéma, “Let the light and awe from some of the most magnificent medieval pieces pour in!" December 8th at 5:00, St. Joseph Center Chapel, 1501 S Layton Blvd (S 27th St).

Renowned as America’s preeminent early music ensemble, The Boston Camerata was founded in 1954, and associated with the Boston Museum of Fine Arts until 1974, at which time it incorporated as a separate nonprofit entity and began self-producing its own concert series.  From 1968 to 2008, Joel Cohen directed the ensemble's activities, which grew exponentially under his leadership. He is now Music Director Emeritus.  Camerata has been under the direction of French-born singer and scholar Anne Azéma since autumn 2008.

The Milwaukee Choral Artists (MCA) is Wisconsin's premier professional choral ensemble and one of only five professional women’s choral ensembles in the country. With its signature lush sound, MCA brings a distinctive repertory of choral and vocal masterworksundefinedincluding well-known pieces, new music, seldom-performed works, and music of diverse cultures and historical periodsundefinedto concert audiences throughout the region.

The Early Music Now series also features performances of French Baroque repertoire (St. Paul’s Episcopal Church) and Italian solo cantatas (UWM Zelazo Center), and a feast of Slavic music in the perfect local venue: the Basilica of Saint Josaphat.
