On September 12, 1840, Robert Schumann and Clara Wieck were wed after emerging victorious from a long, contentious legal battle with the bride’s father. While fighting for his marriage to Clara, Robert’s artistic energy was full at work: he produced over 100 songs between the previous February and the wedding.
We will present a number of these beloved Liederundefinedcombining poetry and music, voice and pianoundefinedas well as several by Clara, along with selections from their affectionate letters to one another. And for a dramatic twist, we will share several duets by Johannes Brahms, who was influenced by them, both musically and romantically.
This concert is a fund raising event for the music department of St. Matthias
A post concert reception will be included with your admission.
