Historic Hook & Hastings Organ Concert Sunday September 23rd Lake Geneva

On Sunday, September 23rd Mark Brampton Smith, Organist from Madison, Wisconsin, will be performing a selection of organ works from the 17th century to the present that have been selected to demonstrate the capabilities of this historic 1883 instrument, Hook & Hastings OPUS 1144.  The concert is scheduled to begin at 6pm at Holy Communion Episcopal Church, 320 Broad Street in Lake Geneva Wisconsin.  Advance tickets are available and free will offerings will also be accepted.  All proceeds will go to the Organ Restoration Fund at Holy Communion, as their 135 year old organ is needing a 50-year check-up and restoration to its great windchest, pipework, slide tuners & regulating rings, tie-rods and leather bushings.  The church has raised about half of what is needed to complete the recommended refurbishments.

Concert attendees will be in for a musical treat, as Mark Brampton Smith began his church music career as a boy soprano at St. Paul's Parish (K St.) in Washington, D.C., eventually serving on the music staff of churches in seven states. His degrees in organ performance come from the Eastman School of Music and the University of Michigan. As an organist, Mark has won prizes in the Fort Wayne, Ann Arbor, and American Guild of Organists National Competitions, and has performed solo recitals at venues such as Overture Hall. As a collaborative pianist, Brampton Smith has worked with numerous singers, instrumentalists, and ensembles, including the Ann Arbor Cantata Singers, University of Michigan choirs, Colgate University Chorus, and (currently) the Wisconsin Chamber Choir. Mark is currently serving as Organist at Grace Episcopal Church in Madison and his wife, Catherine Arnott Smith, is Associate Professor at UW-Madison School of Library & Information Studies, they reside in Stoughton, Wisconsin.

Advance tickets are available for $25 (which includes a dinner voucher for the same day to Tuscan Grill) by mail - send payment and a SASE to: Holy Communion Episcopal Church, 320 Broad Street, Lake Geneva, WI  53147; or in-person Tuesdays and Thursday 9am-12pm or Sundays 9:30-10:30am.  Please direct any questions to the church at 262-248-3522.
