to launch Sacred Music Series

at Capitol Drive Lutheran Church

Capitol Drive Lutheran Church is pleased to announce a new concertseries that will feature gifted artists from the Milwaukee area as we celebrate God’s gift of music. 

The inaugural concert of the Sacred Music Series will feature Dr. Wallace McClain Cheatham in recital on Sunday,November 30, 2014 at 3pm.

Dr. Cheatham has been featured as a soloist, collaborative artist, composer, and lecturer in China, England,Scotland, and the United States. His compositions have been published by several houses and have beenperformed and recorded by major artists. There has been recognition for his work as conductor of Milwaukee’sThree-Tiered New Jubilee Choral Ensembles; Director of Music at Brookfield Presbyterian Church;performance pianist for the Chancel Choir at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church; and music director for theAfrican American Children’s Theater.

Dr. Cheatham will perform works of Johannes Brahms, Lani Smith, Ruth Norman, Walter Piston, John F.Carré, and the artist himself. Two hymns will be sung bringing the audience from Christ’s birth to the cross.

The recital will take place on the church’s historic pipe organ. Reuter Opus 1155 was dedicated by E. Power Biggs in 1956 and has hosted several famous organists including Virgil Fox, Jean Langlais, Flor Peeters,Frederick Swann, Paul Manz, John Schwandt, and many others. 

A free will offering will be received to support the recital series with proceeds benefiting the CDLC Organ Fund.

Located on West Capitol Drive between 53rd and 54th streets and founded in 1932, Capitol Drive LutheranChurch is a group of thankful Christians who meet Christ as we receive the love of God when gathering aroundWord and Sacrament in Sunday worship.
