Dean's Column

May 2013

As we prepare for our annual meeting and member’s recital I am moved to review and reflect on the accomplishments of the chapter over the last program year. The chapter experienced some exciting and rewarding programs beginning in August with our co-sponsorship of a Choral Reading Session and Workshop with Michael Burkhardt, Our Member’s Picnic and Installation Service is on its way to becoming a tradition in the chapter. In October we were treated to a thrilling recital by NYACOP winner, Daryl Robinson. We continued our practice of joining with the Organ Historical Society to present a fine recital by Dr. Curt Sather on the historic Schulke organ at St. Francis Church in Milwaukee. In February we had an interesting “Share and Share Alike” opportunity and in early March we successfully sponsored our first Local Competition in 30-or more years as part of the AGO/Quimby Regional Competition for Young Organists (RCYO.) In April we joined once again with the OHS in the Spring Organ Crawl, visiting Organs of the Green Bay area and concluding with a fine recital by our District Convener, Jeffrey Verkuilen. In a few days our season draws to a close with our Annual Meeting and Member’s Recital. At the meeting you will have an opportunity to see and approve our plans for the next season and to give your vote to those you want to lead our chapter over the next year.

Each of these programs requires the work and coordination of many members. As effortless as they often seem, there is much that goes-on behind-the-scenes to bring them about. One of the most important parts of the behind-the-scenes effort is the ongoing financial support of members like you. Your dues and your generous contributions are integral to the continued success of our programs in the upcoming year. It is time again to show your support by renewing your membership and including your contribution if you can. Some years ago our renewal date changed from January to July. Our system is prepared to receive your renewal between April 15 and July 1. If you have already renewed, thank you. If you haven’t yet, please be sure to show your support of these programs by your prompt renewal and your generous donation.

I hope to see each of you at the meeting and recital.
